FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Don't see your question here? Give us a call, we're happy to hear from you!

Why should I buy a standby generator?
A standby generator automatically powers your home during outages—without the hassle of setting up a portable unit—protecting your essential systems, preventing costly damage, and giving you peace of mind during storms or emergencies.
Why should I buy my generator through an authorized dealer
instead of online?
Buying your generator through an authorized dealer instead of online gives you peace of mind, proper setup, and long-term support. Here’s why it matters:
✔ Professional Installation: Authorized dealers ensure your generator is sized and installed correctly, safely, and up to code—something you won’t get with an online purchase.
✔ Full Warranty Coverage: Manufacturers often require installation by an authorized dealer to honor the full warranty. Buying online and using an unapproved installer can void that coverage.
✔ Service & Support: Authorized dealers offer local support, maintenance, and warranty repairs—online retailers don’t.
✔ Site-Specific Recommendations: Dealers assess your home’s layout, power needs, and local regulations to recommend the right size and placement of your generator.
✔ No Hidden Hassles: Online purchases leave you on your own for permitting, fuel connections, inspections, and future service calls.
What if I already bought my generator online, will you install it?
Yes, we can usually install generators purchased elsewhere, but please note that there may be some limitations on warranty coverage and manufacturer support when the generator isn’t purchased through us. We’ll need to review the site and equipment to ensure everything meets local code and installation requirements. Installation costs, permits, and materials would still apply.
Will Philbrick's service my generator if I bought it somewhere else?
Yes, as long as your generator is one of the brands we're authorized to work on, we can perform service calls and maintenance. If you're not sure whether your generator is on our list, feel free to call our office—we’re happy to help!
How do I decided what size generator I need?
There are several factors that determine what size generator to install. The most important being do you want your whole house or partial house powered during an outage. Our expert technicians specialize in sizing a generator for your specific needs.
What brand generators do you service?
We have certified technicians for Briggs and Stratton, Generac, and Kohler. Please call our office if you don't see your brand listed here.
What locations do you service?
Our standard service area covers within 1 hour of our shop in Brentwood, NH. However, we understand that finding a factory-authorized dealer can be challenging, so we’re happy to offer extended coverage to customers outside this range for an additional fee.
What happens after I decide I want to buy a generator?
Once you decide to move forward with a purchase, there are several important steps to complete. At Philbrick’s, we take the hassle off your hands by handling permit applications, contacting Dig Safe, scheduling your install and gas and electrical inspections with the town. If you prefer to use your own contractors, our friendly staff is more than happy to coordinate with them to ensure a smooth process.
For more details or any questions, feel free to give our office a call!
Are permits required to install my generator?
Yes, most towns require permits to install a generator, including wiring and gas permits. Some also require a mechanical (placement) permit. After installation, inspections are conducted for all permits pulled. But don’t worry—we handle all the permitting and inspections for you!
Do I need to perform any maintenace on my standby generator?
Per manufacturer recommendations, generators should be serviced at least once a year. Philbrick’s is factory certified, and our Maintenance Agreements are designed to meet these guidelines. Leaving your tune-ups to the experts helps keep your warranty valid and allows us to perform any factory updates or service bulletins.
Is there financing available for generators?
Yes. Synchrony Financing offers financing for generators. You can apply here!
Do I need to be home for someone to service my generator?
Usually, no—you don’t need to be home since most work is done outside at the generator. If inside access is ever required, we will notify you in advance to make arrangements.
Can I pay my bill online?
Yes, you can pay your invoice online with ACH. If you would like to pay by credit card there will be a 3.5% processing fee added to the invoice. You may also pay your bill over the phone. If you prefer to skip the fees you can also mail a check.
